*technical difficulties hopefully the sound works as I cannot play it to find out!
What have I done today to be good to myself?
I had made and put up sign around the C@p site. This was good towards myself because someone else can now share the joy I had when reading the books.

Capturing C@P
So as you were shown in orientation, this is the link to the Capturing C@P site. You should all do at least one of these! You can take the 6 questions you've been doing and put them into that.

odd but yet true tricks
If you ever get caught sleeping on the job or in school, slowly raise your head and say "In Jesus' name, amen.
Easy tick removal! They "screw" clockwise into your skin. Just grab it with tweezers and "unscrew" counterclockwise.
Is the person in line behind you annoying? Hold down all 4 corners on the credit card machine, it takes *a while* to reset.
To tell how fresh an egg is, put it in water. If it sinks, it's fresh. If it floats to the top, throw it away.
Trying to save space? Uncooked spaghetti fits perfectly inside of a Pringles can.
Studying or working in your room? Keep your shoes on. Your mind associate having your shoes on with being busy.
Dry-erase markers work on mirrors. Leave notes in the bathroom and around the house easily!
When putting fitted sheets on a bed, do the opposite (diagonal) corners first!
Toss onions in the freezer 15 minutes before you cut them, & they won't make you tear up anymore.
Press the space bar to scroll down *really* fast. Press shift+space to scroll up that fast.
If you suspect someone's checking you out, yawn. If they yawn back, they were (yawning is visually contagious!).
Pressing F6 highlights the address bar in your browser.
The door to your fuel tank comes with a slot to put your fuel cap into, instead of putting it on the roof/hood of the car.
Curl your toes while walking around in the dark. It'll prevent you from stubbing your toe or tripping over something.
If someone doesn't like you, ask to borrow their pencil. It's a cool psychological trick that will make them like you more.
Having a conversation with someone & not sure if they're interested? Fold your arms. If they do the same, they probably are.
Want to show someone an exact time in a Youtube video? Right click on the video & select "copy video URL at current time."
Rubbing alcohol will remove pen marks & stains from pretty much anything.
How to check to see if you have bad breath: Lick your wrist and smell it. (Gross, but works!).
Applying lemon juice onto freckles fades them, and can even make them disappear.
Get rid of acne and lose weight the lazy way: Don't drink soda and get enough sleep.
Accidentally erase something you just typed on your iPhone? To undo that, just shake it.
Not sure whether to unfriend someone on Facebook? If it'd be weird to wish them happy birthday on their wall, unfriend them.
Sprinkle salt on your drink napkin and it won't stick to the drink.
Mail letters for free: Put your address as the destination, and put their address as the return address.
If you're leaving your house to go on vacation for a while, keep your valuables either in your dishwasher or laundry basket.
Put french fries in your burgers and chips in your sandwiches.
You can use your refrigerator as a giant whiteboard! Just be sure not use Sharpie.
When at Wendy's or McDonald's, ask for unsalted fries. This guarantees that they'll be fresh out of the fryer.
How I helped someone yesterday
20.7.11
This morning I took pictures of the library and uploaded them to the computer for my supervisor. I then emailed them for her. It was a great way to start the day!
What have I done today to make it more likely I will learn something?
Today as I was helping someone with their computer I listened to what she was having problems with. I asked her to walk me through what she normally does at home. I watched what she was doing and realized that her track pad was very sensitive. So I adjusted her track pad by taking away the click function. This made it much easier for her use! I learned that before trying to solve the problem I had to see if there was anything else contributing to the problem! Observe the problem before trying to solve it!
Have I done something positive about someone to their face?
During a one-on-one computer tutorial this afternoon I said what great improvements she had made and also how great she did with the double click!
I talked to my sister during my lunch break today as she had called me earlier in the day. However, when I called her back she had already found a solution to the problem! Her pony has to take medication and he has been eating it along with his feed but this morning he did not. So she found another way to give it him! I told her what a great job she is doing with him as she watches him closely each day to observe how he is doing and makes sure he gets all his medication.
Have you said something positive about someone, when they are not even in the room?
Last week I was telling my supervisor about the great pasta I had in Port Williams. I was explaining how great the owner and the employees were. She has gone twice and she really enjoyed it as well! So we were talking about what great food there was and about how great the owner and employees were!
Over the weekend I was telling my family how much I am enjoying my job and how my supervisors and others I work with are so much fun to work with!
What have I done today to be good to myself?
Everyday I bring a lunch but this morning I decided I would go for pasta instead! I decided it would be a nice treat! It was very good!
I also enjoy reading so over the weekend I bought a book and I finished it over the weekend! I had not really had much chance to read since last summer!
C@P Day Winner
So Debbie and I have chosen the C@P day winner. Congratulations to CAITLIN!!!
She went above and beyond the call of duty and made her C@P day excellent for anyone who walked in! I would also like to give an honorable mention to JASMINE. She also made it great and was the only person to actually say "Happy C@P day" to us when we walked in!
Congrats guys! Take a look at the photos posted in the pages section and again thanks for making this the best C@P day ever!

What have I done today to make it more likely some ELSE will learn something?
I made an extra handout and spent all day working on it for my beginners class tomorrow night to learn about emails. I have been finding that the needs of beginners are all different so I made sure that I had asked what they wanted to learn to gear the session to their interests. Hopefully they will be more likely to learn something because they will be interested in it.
Have I done something positive about someone to their face?
I told one of our volunteers who comes in often throughout the week what a big help he was. I think he was happy to know that he was being helpful.
Have you said something positive about someone, when they’re note even in the room?
The other day I said to one of the Librarians how nice my boss Nick is and how funny he is. He makes working here at the C@P lab fun!
What have I done today to be good to myself?
I love reading and because I have been working on school as well as working two jobs, my personal reading time has been limited. But since I have now finished one job and am near finishing my course, I decided to order some books from amazon and treat myself. I know it’s crazy to buy books when you work at a library, but there is something about adding a book to your bookshelf that feels rewarding.
Toy Story fans?
This clip is pretty well done and shows love and a struggle.

C@P DAY !
I feel like I've been slacking TERRIBLY on my 6 questions, so I'm just going to shoot off all 6 right now :)
1. What have I done today to be helpful?
Today my supervisor and I hung streamers across the ceiling of our C@P site area, she did not want to stand on a chair to tape the ends to the ceiling, so I did it for her :) .
My office door is very close to the C@P site entrance, so I CAN be seen, but today I stood outside of my office and walked around, fiddled with the food and decorations making sure everything was in order, greeted people as they came in, and served them cake. I think just making yourself more AVAILABLE opens you up to learn something new :)
3. What have I done today to make it more likely some ELSE will learn something?
Today for C@P Day I did C@P site trivia! I have prizes that I am giving out to C@P Site users. The questions were all computer related/C@P related questions.
Today I told my supervisor that I loved her eye makeup. A bit silly? Maybe.. but she seemed to really appreciate it and seemed surprised that I'd mentioned it. It put a smile on her face, so it put one on mine!
5. Have you said something positive about someone, when they’re note even in the room?
Today after one of our C@P Site users had left I told one of my co-workers "you know, that lady is really a sweetheart". She comes in everyday looking on jobbank. I really hope she finds something soon!
And last but CERTAINLY not least! Today I have been having the best day.. and still am. I really got into the C@P day spirit.. to the point where everyone here at the VANSDA office has been laughing at me. We hung up streamers, we have a big table out front full of punch, chips. candy, fruit tray, veggie tray, and balloons hanging from the ceiling! Doing all this was so fun for me. (I have also been indulging in the treats throughout the day.. so THIS is good for me :) ) !
HAPPY FRIDAY ALL AND OF COURSE HAPPY C@P DAY!!

Mini C@p Day...?
I was starting up all the computers when this littler girl came in the building.
Today at the building where the C@p site is located was suppose to be day camp for the community members. This little girl had the date and time wrong and her parents had just dropped her off and went to work. I had called almost everyone trying to find the people in charge of the camp, but no answer. This little girl stayed with me from 8:40- 12:00. We made magnets and a bookmark and a sign for her bedroom and made origami hearts and dogs . She was very happy that she was able to do something while she was waiting for the day camp. We still don't know if the day camp is happening but she went to lunch at her grandma's and might return to see if the camp is still going on .She said she will return after she eats. This was so cute and It was like a mini c@p day. We used the computer for everything. And a laminating machine and a color printer. :)
Go c@p go!

You may ask how does this do anything to be good to yourself? Well I have always hated printers! And never know how to fix anything, but I did something good I learned something and fixed a printer. (even though it was just empty ink) :p So this was good to do for myself made me feel confident. :)

When it rains...
What do people do when it rains? They come to the library. When they come to the library they notice the wicked cool programs that are happening and they get involved! Now I have 4 kids that love Storybirds so much that they can't get enough...they're coming back next week. Though I love to see the sunshine, today I loved the rain.

yesterday a lady came in not really knowing how to use a computer and wanted help doing her taxes online so I helped her log into the computer open a browser ,It took us a few tries to find the actual site that we had to use, This was my first time doing something like this, Eventually we found the right page and she started inputting her information. we ran into a few problems with putting o in instead of 0 but the friendly error messages helped us out. And after 30 minutes or so we finally got it all done and sent off, She was very grateful of my help and asked for my name and said she would be back if she needed anymore help.

Jasmine just asked me about the screen capture program that I had mentioned at Orientation. It's a free program and available at the following website: http://www.screencapturer.com/
Have fun with it! It's really easy to use and I like the fact that I can select a very small portion of the screen using the region feature.

Have I done something positive about someone to their face?
She had explained to me that she has not been on in a long time (last summer).
So we both open up Gmail and she types in her user name and password very slowly.
The computer showed wrong username or password in red written, she became upset that it wasn't working. I asked are you sure this is the correct username or password? She tells me yes its the same as it was last year. A couple minutes had gone by and her husband came in to use a computer also. I asked him If he knew about the username or password. He had a puzzled look then he reached into his pocket to grab out his wallet. Inside the wallet was a folded piece of paper With the username and password on it of his wife's email account. She forgot a word. Latter I had said the couple you are very smart keeping your password and username with you. Now she can access her account anytime and If she forgets again her husband has the piece of paper from last year in his wallet. The cutest thing is she only wanted to open her email to see her new born grandson photos sent by her son. Her only contact.

Do you beleive in UFO's?
Watch this really good documentary a few weeks ago called UFO's The Greatest Story ever Denied (link to part one below). Was wondering what other people thought about this. Personal I found the documentary very convincing on some points and was fun to watch. Can't wait to hear what other people think about this.

On Monday I had my first one-on-one tutorial it was great to be able to help! The lady came with her laptop and a wish list of what she wanted to learn. We worked away at the list and since I did not have another tutorial booked after I spent some extra time with her. We completed a lot of her wish list and she will be back next week for another tutorial. I am looking forward to the rest of the summer and more one-on-one tutorials!
