Summer Intern Projects 2013

Biography:

Requirements:
  • Submit a short biography of yourself to be posted on the blog.
  • This should be one paragraph (3-5 lines).
  • A current picture is also required.
DUE: JUNE 28, 2013

Wikipedia Project:

Requirements:
·         Choose a local person, place or thing.
·         Subject should be one that does not have a lot of information about it on Wikipedia.
·         Subjects must be approved by Debbie and Meaghan before research can begin to avoid duplication.
·         All research must be thorough, and references cited properly.
·         Compile research into an essay format and submit to Debbie (kwhregcord@gmail.com) and Meaghan (meaghanwindsor@gmail.com) by the due date.
·         When completed, Debbie will post on Wikipedia.
·         After submission, post the most interesting thing you learned from your subject on the blog (kwhca.blogspot.ca)

New Technology Project:

Requirements:
  • Each intern will be required to choose a new or innovative piece of technology to research and present.
  • Interns must prepare a five-minute presentation (PowerPoint) to present to the group during an assigned Elluminate meeting.
  • Interns must also submit a post to the blog about their new technology the week they are assigned.

Capturing C@P:

Requirements:
  • Each intern must submit a blog post describing a success story. This can be one you write, or written by a patron.
  • Each post should be accompanied by a picture of the person or situation.
  • At least one blog post per week per student for the duration of the work experience is desired.
  • All participants who are photographed must sign the participant release form.


CoursePark – SkillsonlineNS
Requirements:
  • Go to following website http://www.coursepark.com/ns
  • Review the dialog boxes and sign up
  • Review the “free online courses” such as:
    • Customer Service Fundamentals
    • Basic Presentation Skills
    • Generating Creative & Innovative Ideas, plus more ….
Note:  These courses are not only available for you but all Nova Scotians
·         You will be required to register and complete one course each month
·         Advise Meaghan and Debbie what you have elected to complete
DUE:  July 31st and August 29th

For your site:
·         Create a poster advertising this service for public, small business, etc.
·         Show users how to sign up
·         Assist users with their search for a course, if required
Note:  You may want to speak with your supervisor about hosting a workshop for small business on Social Media or another topic.  These free courses may help you with developing an outline for your workshop.

3D Printer Tour (MakerBot Replicator2)

Requirement:
  • Please see the 3D Printer Tour Schedule for when the printer will be coming to your site.
  • You will be required to work with Debbie on the date noted.
  • A press release has been issued about the tour schedule but you can use the template created by Dougal and/or create your own poster for advertising in your site or other locations in your community.
  • Using Google SketchUp and/or Tinkercad create a design of your own related to CAP and/or your site or edit an existing 3D object from www.thingiverse.com.
  • Have fun!

For your site:
·         Speak with your supervisor about running a Printer camp using one of the programs noted below.
·         Show users how to use SketchUp (harder program to learn – may be better for teens, adults) and/or TinkerCad (simple to use – great for kids).
·         Have users save their project.
·         Email the projects from your camp to Debbie for printing – please do not have users email Debbie.

·         Projects will be printed and returned to you at your location or at a library site for pickup on your way to or from work.
