Recently at the Hantsport library I had a patron come in sporting problems with a Windows 8 laptop. The first problem came after an infamous windows update, where she could not get back onto the internet. After some investigation it turned out to be a problem with the proxy settings in her network settings. With that fixed, she left happily. How those settings got changed is a mystery...
A week passed, and she came in with new problems. Now, the computer would start, but there was no screen to speak of. We had to boot the computer in safe mode to get the screen back. After rebooting the PC, all the problems were solved once more; but for how long? She was very satisfied with the results, and couldn't thank me enough.
Using more technical expertise, we were able to successfully get the laptop back up and running where it would have been sent to a tech shop before. This particular success tested my technical skills with computers as well, and I'm glad to see I was capable to troubleshoot such problems.
