Success Story from the Wolfville C@P Lab!

I had a really rewarding experience with a One-On-One tutorial that I put on this month. An elderly woman called and requested help with learning to upload some photos from her digital camera to her home computer. I told her that I could only show her how to upload on one of our computers, but that we could take lots of notes and she could do it herself here so that she would know what to do on her own computer. She agreed and set a date to come in for a tutorial. It went very well and I learned all about her, her painting, her family, and even her gorgeous cat named Fernando! (I saw a picture of Fernando and I can attest that he is indeed gorgeous and may or may not be a Whiskas model). We had a great time and the woman learned exactly how to upload her photos to her computer. She was so happy that she could now do this on her own and could go out and take even more pictures with her camera. It was a real confidence boost for both her and me, as we both felt like we had really accomplished something special. The funny part is that I later found out from the librarians downstairs, that after the woman left she went down and told them that I was very helpful and did a great job explaining things to her. Apparently she also asked them to break a twenty for her so she could go back up and give me a tip! Hearing that part was pretty funny and we all had a good laugh about it, but what really made me feel good was hearing the nice things that she had said about me, and about how good I made her feel about technology. That alone made my entire week and really helped to make my experience here as a C@P Youth Intern that much more rewarding.
