Excelling!

“Just finishing first year” – I had a girl come in to receive help on the basics of excel program. I did not have any information ahead of time on what she would be using excel for. She came in without her own computer so we worked on the library laptop. I introduced myself and asked what she would be using the program for and she said she was looking to go into insurance for school in the fall. I wasn’t sure if she meant business school or anything specific and it became clear that her knowledge of spreadsheets were limited. We did basic operations and functions with the program and I showed her templates and how they may be useful depending on how you may be intending to use the program. She began to understand quickly that having a comprehension of all the ways to use the program was impossible, but left better understanding differences of word, PowerPoint, and excel as a whole. We then spoke to different types of options for school and what she has taken in the past. She left with confidence and the door wide open to come back anytime if she gets more specific questions!
