DD Q's

1.      What have I done today to be helpful?
I tried to be especially inclusive and helpful towards one of the boys in my children's program. They were doing the Film Your Favorite Story activity, but he really didn't want to act and would loudly object every time someone asked him to because he wasn't comfortable with doing it. I instead offered him the job of being our director and cameraman. I taught him how to use the camera and he did all of our filming for the day. I helped him play to his strengths instead of doing something that made him unhappy, and he seemed grateful for that.

2.      What have I done today to make it more likely I will learn something?
I let the kids take me along for the ride during our program. Every time they were excited about something they I had done I would get them to show it to me. Their reactions and enthusiasm not only teach me what works in program and what doesn't, but it can pay off in more direct ways as well. One of the kids today discovered a new effect on Bitstrips I had never seen before.
3.      What have I done today to make it more likely some ELSE will learn something?
I gave the kids free reign during our Film a Story program. They insisted that planning what to film beforehand wasn't necessary and that making things up on the spot would work better. I had my doubts, but let them try it. After twenty seconds or so they ran out of material and learned some pre-planning can be helpful. After that they thought their videos through more.
4.      Have I done something positive about someone to their face?
I complimented one of the kids on the Bitstrips comic she made for fun during our last few minutes of our program. The other kids were more into experimenting with the effects and making characters in funny poses than using plot, but this girl had a real story in her comic. I was very impressed, and I told her as much. She seemed to be very proud!
5.      Have you said something positive about someone, when they’re note even in the room?
My brother and a friend of his are hanging out today. I told my mother that I hope they have a good time because they are both great kids and really deserve to have a fun day.
6.      What have I done today to be good to myself?
I watched a ridiculous amount of TV gag/blooper reels. The casts of my favorite shows are crazy and get into all sorts of shenanigans on set - I haven't laughed that hard in a long time!
