Debbie’s surprise Challenge
Stephen Weir
I think the save out inbox rules would be a good step
forward if everyone actually agreed to them but the main problem I see with
these rules would be no one following them sure maybe for a few weeks people
would concisely make an effort to improve and follow them but I see people
going back to old habits very quickly. There’s not really much of a personal
deterrent to not following them
I personally agree that this would be great,
1 & 2) Respect Time – I like this rule as I have spent a
lot of time reading an email only to have the actual main purpose of the email
at the very end. And also people have started using shorthand in there emails
which sometimes makes it hard to understand what they are trying to say.
3) I have got a lot of emails with no subject line or
something very undisruptive so as I am wasting time reading an unimportant
email I may be missing something crucial so have a good short descriptive
subject line would be best.
5) i have seen this countless times people being cc’ed on
things than people replying all and everyone being able to see their private
conversation. It forces people to have to open and read and also cause much
confusion as to if this information is important. So less reply all would be a
very good thing.
7)I actually don’t fully agree to this one, Having
attachments keeps the email much cleaner and less cluttered and most business
have internet speed fast enough to easily open attachments and if the emails
has a description of attachment importance than that should tell you whether
it’s something that needs to be opened. I personally dislike large or medium
sized text documents in an email.
8) These small little acronyms would be a great addition to
email and internet lingo but I also see an initial problem with people knowing
what they stand for but after that initial confusion I see them as being very
helpful.
9) I also see a problem with this problem if I think an
email is going to take more than 2 or 3 replies I find the best solution is a
phone call ,visiting them if there close by or started a text based chat
conversation this options often take less time and are clearer than random
emails maybe days apart.
10) This would be great idea but if people are like me than
spending more than an hour away from my computer or checking my email is like
an eternity. Even if I know for sure I’m not going to get email I still feel
the urge to check it.
