Challenge #2

This is from the past week or so:

What have I done today to be helpful?
I have been very busy with one-on-one computer tutorials. I still have those who have been coming each week since I have started as well as many new people. I am really enjoying how busy I am with computer tutorials. Today I had four people for tutorials. One lady who particularly stands out to me is a lady who when she first starting coming was very easily frustrated by the computer (especially anything flashing or any ads on websites) but today she was much more relaxed and did not get frustrated by the computer at all. I also learned a lot of history from her as we searched google for history. She shared a lot of facts with me. I also printed out a hand-out I have made about searching google so that she could take it home and try herself! It was a great tutorial!

What have I done today to make it more likely I will learn something?
I have a man who has been coming in for one-on-one computer tutorials he comes to both Port Williams and Kentville so that he can learn how to use his dictation hand held machine and save it on his computer. I have learned a lot from this as I had never used this before. I learned it is very important to read the manual very carefully and work through each step very slowing. Then repeat this step a few times and then review this at the next tutorial. Although, I believe that I did this somewhat I now can see how valuable this is when giving one-on-one computer tutorials. It helps to build the memory as well as confidence!

What have I done today to make it more likely some ELSE will learn something?
During the kids programs I try to encourage the kids to interact and share ideas with one another. I think that this important because it helps for all the kids to learn new things. I also encourage sharing and helping each other when they discover something about a program. For example, earlier in July it was just one little boy in attendance for one of the programs so he and I went through how to use the program in a lot of detail. He had this program at home as well so he practiced more before the next session. So at the session he loved helping the others with things he had found. I think that sharing helps everyone learn more!

Have I done something positive about someone to their face?
I passed along a message from someone who came for an one-on-one computer tutorial. He asked me if I would tell my supervisor that she had a very nice polite voice when she answered the phone. I passed this along to her. Although, it was not directly me saying it I wanted to share this.

Have I said something positive about someone, when they are not even in the room?
Last night, I was talking about how much my horseback riding coach when I was young helped me out. My mom and I were talking about how much she helped me get ready for my first horse show and how supportive she was. We were discussing this because I now teach her oldest daughter riding lessons and this weekend will be her first event! So I invited her to bring her horse to my house for the weekend to prepare for the show! I am looking forward to helping her get ready and watch her first event!

What I have I done today to be good to myself?
At the end of July I read a couple of books which was very nice. I am just waiting to write my second midterm on Friday so I can read another! I have also been making sure I set enough time to ride both of my horses when the weather is good because I love it! Yesterday, I made my first double layered cake as I enjoy baking and of course eating the cake!
