I found a lot of informative and interesting information while working on this project but the most interesting was finding out the date and the reliability of The Old School House Museum.
Examples below show what I found to be the most interesting.
For Kings County the East Halls Harbour School built in 1905 was one of the last one-roomed schools to close down.
When the school was still opened the community hall upstairs of the school was a place for weddings, showers, and pie sales. The students used the community hall for a seasonal Christmas concert and Arbor Day.
What is Arbor Day? .... I found this interesting
The last Friday in May usually marked the date for Arbor Day. This was a day when the girls and boys from the school went to clean the school and attend to the schoolyard for maintenance. Sometimes the boys would plant a garden as the girls used their pails and mops to wash the floors. After a long day of work the boys and girls would go fishing and pick flowers for a relaxing evening after working.
Today the old school holds its name as The
School House Museum. The School House holds artifacts and records of the
society findings. Other community organizations stored information and files in
The School House Museum.
Today the School House Museum is a location for
the Community Access Program C@P. Downstairs of the School is set up still like a one - roomed school along with lots of books, while upstair is the location for the C@P Site and the Historical Society files.
I really enjoyed working on this project because I got to learn a little bit more about the historical School House Museum.
