This morning, I had a one-on-one tutorial with a very elderly man. He and I have been sorting through all the photos he's taken on all his trips, over his lifetime... And, let me tell you, it is amazing. He's been all over the world, he did radio control work on bomber planes during WWII, he's written an auto-biography... It's insane. That isn't even the part that impressed me the most.
Today, I explained to him the different file extensions, and what they meant. This was the first time he understood what .JPG meant. We covered a few more things, then called it a day.
While he was waiting for his wife, we got to talking. Despite thinking himself useless with technology, he and I had a discussion about exponential growth, and the possibility of 'the top' of the curve of growth: the Singularity. This is what blew me away.
Together, we came to an interesting point. It isn't that I know everything about computers, and he knows nothing. I just so happened to be born at the right point in time for these things to be common knowledge. He, on the other hand, was born in a time that lead to countless other experiences.
I will have a lot to ponder today.
