This Week in Kentville & Port Williams

Many of my small success stories this week (aside from my amazing Tinkercad abilities) come from relatively minor accomplishments during one-on-one tutorials. Each new person has become a returning participant in the program, and based on the high demand for these tutorials over the winter I can't say that I'm surprised. As I'm sure many of you are aware, the people taking part are delighted to discover things about computers which we often take for granted. Some examples are:

  • Internet searches using Google
  • Sending & receiving email
  • Digital camera usage
  • Sharing photos on Facebook
I've been quite busy with multiple tutorials each day, and I'm looking ahead to my busiest day this Monday in Kentville, with a a fully booked, 6-session day. Fingers crossed that I still have my voice by the end of it!

Aside from that, I attempted to host my first "Weekly Website Workshop" in Port Williams yesterday. I am slightly disappointed that no one showed up, but I'm hoping that numbers will improve in the weeks to come. I think this will be a good opportunity for small business owners to start building a web or social media presence for their business, but perhaps I was a little too late on advertising. Posters have only been up for a week and Grapevine ads will not be published until later in July and into August. All failures aside, I think the poster looks great! Here is a link to the PDF version, although the conversion from Publisher to Adobe PDF has removed some of my fancy coloring.

Today I have enrolled in the SkillsOnlineNS Learning Network, and am beginning my "Social Media for Business" course. Perhaps if I finish in the next little while,  I'll hold one or more social media workshops before the end of the summer!
