A lady comes in every once in a while just to check or send a quick email on her ipad. She came and said she tried to get on the wi-fi down at the harbour but the ipad wont connect to it. I asked her questions about how did she try to connect to the system. She seemed to explain everything perfectly about connecting. I showed her on her ipad how to see what networks she has already been connected to and what the system looks like when it finds a connection and if it needs a password and such. She didn't know about that feature on her ipad. I told if she wants to connect go into her settings and watch and see if the connection works. I didn't see her for a week she comes back and says it still wont connect. I explained everything she was doing was right and its not her ipad or her fault. she was happy I gave her some guidance. yesterday my supervisor came is and told me that the wifi system was down for a week or more. She told me the lady was able to access the internet on her ipad after they rebooted it. Its nice to know it works now for her.
A little information.
The Hall's Harbour community authority had installed a wi-fi network down at the harbour for tourist to use there smart phones, lap tops, ipads and such for no fee. Having the wi-fi located at the tourist destination and nice cool place to send emails for community members the Hall's Harbour c@p site is losing its community members and summer tourists.
I am happy a lady was able to access the internet but it makes one less person in the c@p site on weeks.
I hope to help people with one on one training but being a stand alone site most people just want to use email and are to afraid to try something new or know what they are doing.
I hope this summer picks up. I have told members of the community the c@p site was open this summer and it was published int he seasonal community newsletter about the site being opened this summer.
