I love Mondays at the Kentville Library:
I have had a lot of sign ups for tutorials, and I am always nervous before I tutorial, wondering if I will really be able to help them. I think we are so used to doing so many things on computers we never stop and think about what we do know about computers. I feel as though so far this summer has really opened my eyes to taking computer literacy for granted. There are so many people with far less experience with computers, and being table to help, and show them new things is really quite a nice feeling.
Today I worked with a man who is just getting back to work after retirement/a few years of health problems and is writing a cover letter. He is new to the Microsoft Office programs and at home, he wrote out his cover letter in Microsoft Excel. When I opened up Word to help him, he asked me where all the little boxes were. We quickly realized what the issue was, and got him all set up to apply for the jobs he was interested in.
My 2nd tutorial was for Itunes, my client was unable to communicate with the Ipod, moving songs over, deleting etc. He was a very friendly, upbeat person, and was even more so when we restored his Ipod, got all the songs back on it and was able to manipulate the songs where he wanted them. He plans to come back in next week for more help, or to tell me about his success. GREAT day!
